21 Day Fix | Days 13-15
I POSTED BODY PROGRESS PICTURES IN THIS POST.
THAT’S ALL THE 21-DAY-FIX-POST INTRODUCTION YOU NEED. 🙂
I felt excellent when I woke up on Day 13. Maybe it was day 12’s terribleness that made day 13 feel so….fresh.
I spent all evening on day 12 searching through Instagram for 21 Day Fix people to follow. That day, I had let my emotions guide my stomach, and I cheated with that granola. So I wanted to get my Instagram more in line with my fitness goals to help ward off another potential emotionally-turbulent-self-attack on my diet.
Day 13 exercise = I did my 55-minute Firm video: Hi-Def sculpt, again. I just love Annie. She’s so sweet and adorable and she looks like a mini Hulk. And she does the body GOOD with solid, focused weight-lifting moves that work me from top to bottom. I felt stronger than ever during this video, and I attribute it all to Autumn.
After that, I went grocery shopping and spent $100 on a TON OF AMAZING FOOD!
Look at all of these 21 Day Fix-approved finds! All from Meijer. Lots of the produce and shelf items are organic, too. Still just a hundred bucks!
I tried Sriracha for the first time on my trip to Ludington with Husband (a few weeks before he left), and I loved it.
So, I bought some.
And then I made an omelette for breakfast.
I spent the morning polishing my Days 10-12 post, which left me famished!
For lunch, I measured out two slices of the low-sodium turkey breast I bought that morning.
And then I drizzled Dijon mustard on top of the two slices and sprinkled 1/2 a green container of Brussels sprouts and sliced cherry tomatoes on top of that.
And this, my friend, was the absolute best tasting thing I’ve eaten thus far on the Fix.
My mouth is watering just looking at the picture!!
After lunch, I watched The Best of Me on Netflix, which was just so romantic and heartbreaking and sweet and heartwarming like all of Nicholas Sparks’ movies.
Then, I baked The Foodie and The Fix’s Cocoa-Banana Oat Bars.
According to the website, 1 bar (baked in an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9, cut into 9 squares) = 1/2 purple, 1/2 yellow, and 1 teaspoon, and less than a teaspoon of sugar.
They smelled just like banana bread while they baked.
Mine don’t look the same as The Foodie and The Fix’s. I think maybe because my bananas were smaller?
These bars taste EXACTLY like banana bread.
I couldn’t taste the chocolate or the nut butter at all (I used 2 T. of almond butter and 1 T. of peanut butter).
I think that these would be GREAT with nuts. Walnuts, maybe.
And a lot more chocolate.
But, my little bar was delightful. I ate it warm, which made it taste even MORE like banana bread.
Then I spent the evening watching the Kids Baking Championship on Netflix which is THE cutest show known to mankind.
And also, that show made me hungry.
I’ve GOT to stop watching cooking shows, because they make me want to eat food. But I LOVE FOOD SHOWS. They are my favorite kind of show to watch! Especially Cutthroat Kitchen. That one is my favorite. But Worst Cooks in America was really great, too (and informational).
So, I made this for dinner:
1 big collard leaf + 1 container of taco meat (here’s my delicious homemade taco seasoning recipe) + julienned red peppers + tomatoes + cheese + my new best friend, Sriracha.
Then, I finished out my purples with another 1/2 container of fruit.
Then, I topped my night off with three pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. YUM.
What I ate on Day 13:
- 2-egg omelette with 1 container of diced green pepper, orange pepper, and mushrooms = 1 red, 1 green
- 1 container of diced watermelon = 1 purple
- 2 slices of turkey + drizzle of Dijon mustard + half a container of Brussels sprouts and cherry tomatoes = 1 red, 1/2 green
- 1 square of banana brownies = 1/2 purple, 1/2 yellow
- collard green taco = 1 red, 1.5 green, 1/2 blue
- 4 chia crackers + 1/2 of a container of hummus (here’s my hummus recipe!) = 1/2 yellow, 1/2 blue
- 1/2 container of green grapes, raspberries, and blackberries = 1/2 purple
- 4 pumpkin chocolate chip cookies = 1 yellow
Day 13 totals:
3 red (of 4)
2 teaspoons oil (from the banana/oat brownie, and how the heck do you count Dijon mustard? I know mustard is free, but I cannot find a PEEP on the internet about whether Dijon mustard is free.)
I didn’t eat all of my proteins because I was full and didn’t feel like eating yogurt.
And now…a moment dedicated to W A T E R M E L O N.
Watermelon = Brooke’s soul nectar.
It makes me feel secure and complete the exact same way it did when I was seven years old.
I may change, but watermelon always stays the same.
I GOT A TEN MINUTE CALL FROM HUSBAND ON DAY 13!!!!!
There I was, just sitting on my futon eating grapes, and suddenly Husband’s face pops up on my screeching phone.
It was soooo good to talk to him. And for TEN MINUTES!
I only cried once.
He’s doing really well, but he’s still at processing, so he’s very BORED. Guess what they have to do at processing? A lot of sitting and standing. Do you know what that means? I didn’t until I asked where he sits.
He sits in an auditorium with all the other soldiers. For HOURS ON END. And the only things they have to occupy themselves are little ARMY booklets to learn acronyms, solute positions, etc. And if anyone falls asleep, everyone gets smoked. Which means everyone has to do a bunch of sit-ups and push-ups and flutter kicks while Drill Sergeants scream at them. Husband said that processing is by far the most torturous experience EVER. Sitting in an auditorium for hours on end reading the same things over and over again sounds like hell to me, too. And! They don’t even get to talk to each other! Only when given permission!
I shudder at the thought.
He’s more nervous for Wednesday, though (Wednesday = day 16), because that’s when they ship alllll the soldiers to basic training. And Husband said all the recruits are shaking in their boots because they have been hearing nothing but horror stories about basic training initiation.
Apparently, they keep you up for 36 hours straight and just smoke you, smoke you, smoke you.
Husband, he is so funny, he says, “But they do feed us.”
Oh, well that’s good!
Then, Husband had to hang up. And I was able to keep the rest of my tears inside.
I felt like a billion dollars after that phone call. I told him that him being gone makes me want to put him in a cave where I can lock us both inside and he can never escape, so it’s just us and our little brood forever.
He did that collar-tugging laugh like he always does when I scream BABIES! in his face.
Anyway, I trotted off to bed happy as a clam on vacation on day 13 night.
Though sleep wasn’t the greatest, I felt fricken amazing on day 14.
Day 14 exercise = I did Autumn’s Plyo Fix workout video. I eyed it and eyed it and finally tore the cellophane off and said, “FINE!” and popped it in the PlayStation. Whew! This one was HARD. But not first-week-of-the-Fix-everything-is-impossible hard. Just challenging because you’re jumping like a frog the whole time. My thighs were jello and I was COVERED in sweat. Which means it was an AWESOME workout. I kind of want to do another workout when I get home from work.
I decided that I was going to weigh myself and take more pictures this morning. Because I hadn’t weighed myself since day 8 and I hadn’t taken pictures of myself since day 9!
Well, I’m sad to admit that I weighed the exact same on day 14 as I did on day 8.
But you know what? I feel like the hulk and I have a ton of energy, and I know I am way more in shape on day 14 than day 8.
So, in an act of defiance toward my scale, I’m going to post some progress pictures!
Yeah, I’m wearing my bra. I KNOW, I should have worn a sports bra in that first picture. But I never thought I would be SHARING these pictures with anyone, and I can’t go back in time and wear a different top. So I’m not going to cry about the world seeing me in my BRA. My bra looks a lot like my sports bras (and it covers more than my bikinis), anyway, so just please deal with the bra pictures.
Yes, it’s hard to tell the difference between day 8 and day 14. But you know what? I feel way healthier and better looking on day 14 than I did on day 9, and if only I had MEASURED MYSELF at the beginning of all of this, I would be able to see if I’m losing any inches.
*scolds self for measurement laziness*
Make sure you measure yourself!
Instead of beating me down, my scale number has actually motivated me to work even harder.
And, to me, there are a few differences between day 9 and day 14 pictures.
And I feel different, too. I feel way more in shape on day 14 than on day 9.
Possible reasons why I haven’t lost any more pounds on the scale:
- I am eating much more of my food these days than I was in the beginning.
- A tapering of weight loss is natural. Of course it’ll be more drastic in the beginning and slower as I near my goal weight.
- I had that extra 1/2 container of granola.
- I’m not drinking enough water.
- I’m gaining muscle mass.
- Those last 10 pounds are going to FIGHT ME TO THE END.
So, anyway, there you go. My embarrassing bra pictures for all the world to see! Don’t care! Drink ’em in, friend. Those are progress pictures.
I am going to CONTINUE with my exercise, drink more water, and I’m going to try to add EXTRA workouts to my daily dosage. Because I’ve been doing a lot of sitting around (especially being on call for work), and I need to start burning more calories than I am consuming in order to shed more weight.
Onward and upward!
I’ll take more pictures at the end. 🙂
Back to the food.
I made an egg for breakfast. And its picture is blog-worthy, because have you seen some of the horrendous eggs I’ve made? Check my Instagram!
This picture is proof that my egg-cooking skills are improving along with my health. This is also proof that I am now obsessed with decorating all of my foods with Sriracha.
And here is my beautiful lunch. It feels really good to be back at work and on an eating schedule I’m comfortable with.
What I ate on Day 14:
- 1 egg cooked in a nonstick pan = 1/2 red
- 1 container of dino kale + 1/2 container of Brussels sprouts, peppers, mushrooms = 1.5 green
- 1 container of diced chicken and shrimp = 1 red
- 1/2 container of mixed veggies = 1/2 green
- 1 hard-boiled egg = 1/2 red
- 1 orange = 1 purple
- 2 slices of turkey = 1 red
- 1 container of Grape Nuts cereal + 1/2 a container of almond milk = 1.5 yellow
- 1 container of green grapes, raspberries, and blackberries = 1 purple
Day 14 totals:
3 red (of 4)
2 green (of 3)
1.5 yellow (of 2)
0 blue (of 1)
0 orange (of 1)
0 teaspoons (of 2)
I didn’t eat all of my food because I wasn’t HUNGRY for it. The weekend showed me that, with a little bit of boredom and free access to my kitchen, I will do everything I can to eat ALL of my food, even when I’m already full. I think this is another reason my weight didn’t budge.
I got another workout in after work! I did my 30-minute Core Rhythms: Latin Cardio Jam video. I was running REALLY SHORT ON TIME, and the on call phone started ringing right in the middle of the cool down, so whew! Right on schedule! I wasn’t necessarily WINDED from this one, but my knees were feeling very hot and swollen (probably from that morning’s Plyo), and I was a little nervous I’d break something. But, I pushed through (GENTLY ON THE JOINTS). And I was very proud of myself.
I really didn’t want to do a second workout by the time the clock struck 4PM. But I did it because I promised myself I would.
Here’s my crazy salad. It was top-notch with those shrimpies.
HEY! I almost forgot to remind you that I posted my 21 Day Fix Motivation post! You absolutely MUST hop over there and comment with what keeps you motivated to eat healthy and/or stay in shape. Read my own tips and then share yours!
So, anyway, the rest of my evening was lovely. I watched a little Netflix and then finished working around 8PM, after which I promptly passed out before my 11:30PM alarm woke me up for more work, again.
I was kind of dragging butt on day 15. Day 14’s two workouts plus stupid on call stuff makes for low energy.
All of that exercise is worth it, though. It’s always worth it. Exhaustion = I’m doing the right thing.
Our internet connection is still jacked up at work, which meant I was working from home at 6AM on day 15.
This unexpected having-to-work-on-laptop-during-normal-exercise-time meant I had to strategize how I’d get my workout in.
Well, I timed it SO WELL that the on call phone – AGAIN – didn’t ring until my cool down! I tried to pretend I wasn’t out of breath when I answered the phone.
Oh, and I got sweat all over it. Gross! But don’t worry, coworkers, I disinfected it.
I also took a FOUR MINUTE SHOWER this morning, because I was waiting for more calls to come in. I’ve never showered, lotioned, and clothed myself faster in my life.
I also packed my lunch at record speed.
Want a peek?
So, I did some internet searching pertaining to my current not-losing-any-more-weight predicament, and I found some tips for people who are having trouble losing more weight on the 21 Day Fix.
One of those tips is to eat your fruits in the morning so you have alllllll day to burn those sugar calories off. So, I ate my fruit and yogurt first.
Then, my delicious salad.
While I was eating these foods, I was actively convincing every single male in my office to try the 21 Day Fix.
I’m not a coach. I am a Fixliever. The proof is in the pudding-less thighs I’m toning every day. The program sells itself!
What I ate on Day 14:
- 1 container of Green yogurt = 1 red
- 1 container of grapes, blackberries, and raspberries = 1 purple
- 1 hard-boiled egg = 1/2 red
- 1 container of dino kale + 1 container of sautéed asparagus, green pepper, and mushrooms = 2 green
- 1 container of hulled sunflower seeds = 1 orange
- 1 slice of low-sodium turkey breast = 1/2 red
- 1/2 a container of homemade granola (see this post for the recipe) = 1/2 yellow
- 1 collard leaf + 1/2 a container of tuna + veggies + Sriracha = 1 green, 1/2 red
Day 14 totals:
2.5 red (of 4)
1/2 yellow (of 2)
0 blue (of 1)
0 teaspoons (of 2)
I didn’t eat all my foods because I wasn’t hungry for the containers I had left over after I ate my collard wrap. And, also, I am really trying to lose those extra ten pounds. And I have a feeling that cutting fruit and carbs and food is the best way to do it.
Check out this bad boy!
I know I say this every time, but THIS wrap was the best thing I’ve eaten so far on the Fix. The tuna was low sodium, too!
Collard greens are much milder than kale = much easier to eat.
Also, is there really such a thing as too much Sriracha?
I really wanted to get a second workout in on day 15 to get the rest of this weight off, but being on call while the office’s phones and internet are DOWN means working 24/7. And I was given orders to immediately tell the office when I had made it home so they could transfer everything over to me. And everyone knows I only live a few minutes away. So I couldn’t sneak a workout in or even a WALK before they called me. Don’t they know I have health goals?!
Actually, I don’t know if I could have done another workout. Because I was EXHAUSTED. So tired, my friend. And I was having a hard time remembering the last time my butt wasn’t sore.
I am SO looking forward to sleeping through the night once on call is over.
Tomorrow morning, I plan on doing one of my hour-long killer workout videos with weights and all that jazz.
Autumn made me really sore at first, but not as sore as my Firm girls ALWAYS make me.
Did I mention that I’m getting guns?
